“Eruina” - The eighth illustration of "The Wāhine in Gold Series"

Eruina” is a reflection of inter cultural connectedness, honouring wāhine who navigate the complexities and beauty of multiple identities. Drawing from both Māori and Canadian First Nations influences, the work celebrates the strength, grace, and resilience found in embracing diverse lines of whakapapa.

Her kākahu weaves together poutama and aronui tāniko patterns, symbolising the pursuit of ancestral knowledge and a deep reverence for the natural world. Each element speaks to the interconnectedness of culture, identity, and the journeys that shape who we become.

Inspired by personal reflections and connections within Josh Kiwikiwi’s own whānau, “Eruina” acknowledges the importance of unity within oneself, embracing both the similarities and differences between cultures while honouring the richness they bring to identity and belonging.
