Collection: Current Collection

This collection explores whakapapa, identity, and cultural reclamation through contemporary Māori portraiture. Born from Joshs own journey reconnecting with te reo, te ao Māori, and ancestry, each work carries narratives of resilience, wairua, and becoming.

Blending textured painting, monochromatic illustration, and gold leaf, the series reinterprets traditional Māori motifs through a contemporary lens. Korowai, moko, kōwhaiwhai, and ancestral patterns become vessels for storytelling, honouring both tūpuna and the evolving Māori experience today.

More than portraiture, these works are reflections of connection, memory, and cultural continuity, a conversation between past, present, and future.
