Artwork Statement
Movement defines this work. Three tamariki - sisters, cousins, or friends stride together, hands clasped, their bond alive and unbroken. Loose, flowing brushwork captures their rhythm, while the mangōpare pattern behind them ripples with energy, unity, and connection.
Their simplicity of form belies the depth of meaning: aroha, kotahitanga, and whakapapa made visible through gesture. They remind us that continuity is not only carried by our ancestors but lived daily in the ways we hold to one another and step forward together.
Tamariki are the next tūpuna, the future storytellers. Though depicted as children, they could just as easily be seen as three kuia, three nannies walking side by side, embodying the eternal cycle of life, love, and lineage.
