Original painting by Josh Kiwikiwi
Acrylic, mixed media & gold leaf on canvas 500x700mm (framed)
Here stands a wahine whose eyes are lifted toward a horizon beyond our sight.
Her presence is commanding yet serene, shaped by both struggle and resilience.
Shimmering tones of blue, green, and crimson ripple across her skin, suggesting she embodies more than herself alone, a being woven from cosmos and whenua (land) alike.
The aronui taniko patterned cloak upon her shoulders speaks to the pursuit of knowledge and interconnected pathways, grounding her in whakapapa (genealogy). Long golden earrings place her firmly in the present, balancing tradition and individuality. This painting honours whine who rise from the shoulders of those before them, carrying legacy forward while stepping proudly into their own authority.
This artwork is one of the last pieces left in Josh’s 2025 Art in the park collection.
