This portrait holds both power and grace. A pūhoro pattern moves across the figure’s face like light through water, alive with rhythm and permanence. The kauae, gilded in gold, is both declaration and anchor — dignified, enduring, and radiant in its strength. Her korowai, sculptural and richly textured, feels monumental: at once protective and celebratory, a mantle of whakapapa rendered with contemporary force.

The interplay between shifting colour and solid form collapses time, creating an image that is ancestral and modern in equal measure. Whakapuāwai becomes not only a portrait, but a statement of survival, sovereignty, and beauty.
